As a panelist at the "The Future of Sport" discussion hosted by Black Future House at SXSW, I had the incredible opportunity to share my journey transitioning from sports and the valuable lessons I learned. The discussion delved into the significance of athletes beyond their performance on the field, emphasizing the importance of developing the mindset of young athletes to build a better future. We explored the concept of the 360-degree version of an athlete, which includes mental, emotional, and spiritual health, as a crucial aspect that can lead to success both on and off the field. Sharing my personal journey, I highlighted how the mindset of an athlete plays a critical role in their journey towards success, stressing the importance of athletes being willing to take risks, embrace failure, learn from it, and maintain a growth mindset. We also discussed the impact of technology and how it has changed the way we approach sports, from wearable tech to virtual reality training. Overall, the Black Future House panel discussion provided a platform to share insights and perspectives on the future of sports, recognizing the importance of developing a holistic approach to sports, and I am grateful to have been a part of such an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
