Every sport has pioneers who broke barriers when no one was watching. Russell Winfield—the world's first professional Black snowboarder—is one of them.
Shot against the backdrop of Big Bear Mountain, this film follows "Uncle Russ" from his early days in Upstate New York to becoming a trailblazer who brought his own style and presence to the slopes.
Partnering with Pacific Town Club—an organization built to encourage representation and inclusivity in sports—this project pushed me to go deeper as a director. To create the kind of space where an athlete like Russell could be fully seen. Not just as a competitor, but as a pioneer whose story deserved to be told with care and intention.
The game needs athletes like Russell. My job was to make sure the world knew it.
